Water Purification using NANO TECHNOLOGY

Why Nanotechnology in Water Purification?

Fresh water purification is one of the largest industries in the world. Nearly 70% of the water market goes to agriculture and 15% to industry. The remaining 15% is for domestic use and drinking purpose. Today 1 billion people lack access to safe drinking water, according to the United Nations. One third of world population lives in water –stressed countries and by 2025, this is expected to increase two thirds.

More than 6000 people die every day due to water related disease, including diarrhea, worm infections and infectious diseases. Organic pollutants from industrial waste water from pulp and paper mills, textiles and leather factories, steel foundries and petrochemical refineries are major case of illness in several parts of the world where regulations do not necessarily protect people from such industrial outflows.

More than one billion people lack access to safe drinking water and 2.4 billion people lack access to proper sanitation, nearly all of them in the developing countries. In India the use of fresh water for domestic purpose in house hold is dramatically on the rise especially in rural and urban areas. The need for purified drinking water is on a dramatically rise for the past two decades. The middle and lower socioeconomic people have only very little access to safe drinking water. So we are in urgent need to focus our research to purify water.

Clean water can be obtained through nanotechnology by using Nanotubes than any other common methods, applied for purifying water
